What to Expect Before LASIK

What to expect before, during, and after Dubai LASIK eye surgery

Millions of people around the world depend on the use of contact lenses and eye glasses for improved or corrective vision. This is if you had 20/100 vision without glasses, wearing these devices will give you near perfect vision. But many individuals find that wearing these vision corrective devices, obstructs them from living completely normal lives and take part in sports and outdoor activities without the fear of your eye glasses breaking or contact lenses falling out.

If you have trouble seeing, and your vision was at an acuity level of 20/200 you wouldn’t be able to play a sport like tennis without contact lenses. And wearing them is sometimes considered dangerous, for reasons of accidental impact from the tennis ball or partner’s racket.

LASIK surgery gives individuals the ability to do things they love without the dependence on contact lenses. If you are considering LASIK surgery for improved vision, you will have to understand the risks involved, and also discuss your expectations with your eye surgeon.

The improvement in your visual acuity will only be known after the comprehensive eye exam is conducted. LASIK eye surgery Dubai can improve your vision to around 20/25 and obtaining a 20/20 visual acuity depends on your vision before surgery.

While at your pre-surgical eye exam, your eye specialist will get a detailed report on the health of your eyes. He will check for infection, tear production, dust, and anything out of the ordinary. The eye surgeon will also get a report on your health, and understand if you have any other impeding health risks that might alter the results of eye surgery. The most important test of all, is the complete mapping so to speak of your cornea. Precision mapping of the cornea lets your eye surgeon see any abnormalities in the shape of your cornea, which is what he will use to determine the level of improvement you can expect.

The cornea the top most layer of the eye, should be smooth and curved. An extreme peak or a flatter surface refracts light incorrectly to the back of the eye. LASIK surgery aims to smoothen out the cornea or create a peak if it is flat.

To obtain a perfect picture of the cornea, eye specialists use wavefront-guided technology. Before surgery, your doctor will discuss the risks and benefits of LASIK surgery with you in-depth. Your eye doctor and you should come to an understanding, ensuring your expectations are in line with predicted results.

LASIK Surgery has been instrumental in help millions of patients who were near to blind vision see relatively as normal. Although if you’re considered legally, blind at a level of 20/200, you may not have your vision improved to 20/20, but you will obtain a result of 20/40 or less.

Night Blindness

Millions of People all over the world experience night blindness, which could be a sign of something more serious to come. If your vision is normal during the day, but you struggle to see clearly at night or experience complete night blindness, in some cases the conditions are easily treated or it could be a serious condition like a congenital condition such as retinitis pigmentosa or a symptom of a condition that is not directly related to the eye.

Night vision trouble can crop up in those individuals who are always in the sun exposing their eyes to long durations of UV exposure. It could also be a sign of a vitamin A or zinc deficiency or cataracts to say the least.

What Causes Poor Night Vision?

Difficulty with night vision can stem from conditions ranging from exposure to the sun and vitamin deficiencies to a chronic disease such as cataracts.

Vitamin A deficiency – We have all heard the common “Old Wives Tale” of carrots being good for the eyes. This is in fact as true as it gets. Carrots contain vital vitamin A, which helps keep the retina healthy. Vitamin A is also found in many greens leafy vegetables and yellow vegetables. Night blindness caused by vitamin A deficiency is very rare in developed countries as diets are diverse and nutritious. This mostly happens in those people who have trouble absorbing nutrients and is therefore a secondary symptom various other conditions like Crohn’s Disease, celiac disease, cystic fibrosis, and pancreatic insufficient.

Cataracts - The first symptoms of cataracts is night blindness. Cataracts is associated with the lens, the part of the eye that is responsible for regulating light. In reduced light intensity, the cloudy lens struggles to see clearly and some people experience blurry vision, while others are affected with complete night blindness as the cloudiness progresses to severe stages.

Zinc- this mineral assists vitamin A to be used in the eye. Without zinc, vitamin A is unable to be utilized correctly. Zinc deficiency is a rare phenomenon as it found in abundance in meat, poultry, nuts, beans, and other popular foods. Zinc deficiency is caused by the same bodily conditions as with Vitamin A.

Diabetes night vision problems – high amounts of sugar in the blood stream is toxic and damages blood vessels. The retina, which is the part of the eye that has images focused on it, has many blood vessels flowing through it for nourishment and oxygen supply. These blood vessels can swell and burst, leading to night vision problems.

Sun exposure – if you have recently taken a trip to the desert of the beach and are having trouble seeing at night, this condition is only temporary and will probably resolve itself within two days. To avoid UV damage, doctors recommend wearing sunglasses at all times when outdoors on a sunny day.

Retinitis Pigmentosa - is a rare genetic disorder which affects people before the age of 30. The condition is noted by worsening night vision and day vision, although some part of your vision will still remain.

Eye Surgery – Lasik Eye Surgery patients also experience mild to severe light sensitivity which can last a few days to a week after surgery. Eye doctors will perform many tests to identify individuals who are at risk for developing the condition and recommend other treatments for those individuals, although the risk of having night vision trouble is still real.

If you or someone you know is experiencing night vision trouble, it is advised that you meet with your eye specialists in Dubai immediately who will conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause of your night vision trouble. Our eye surgeons and doctors are a group of medical professionals who are trained and highly experienced in the field of vision and eye care, with collective experience of over 150 years. LASIK stands for laser in-situ keratomileusis, and is the only guaranteed, popular surgery that effectively corrects visual problems such as nearsighted, farsighted and astigmatism. All laser vision corrective surgery works to reshape the cornea, which lies in the front and is the clear almost hard casing. The cornea helps to focus light travelling through it on to the lens and then onto the retina found at the back of the eye. LASIK is one of a many different surgical techniques that is used to reshape the cornea, and is considered the fastest, and the most effective treatment for visual problems.

LASIK Treatment UAE has many benefits, the most significant of which is that 96% of LASIK patients find that they have their desired visual acuity after LASIK Surgery. Some patients may occasionally need an enhancement to receive their desired vision.

LASIK, although considered a surgery, is done with minimal invasion into the eye, and recovery happens in just a day or two at most. Many patients also feel the huge difference in their sight after the second day of recovery. LASIK surgery causes no pain, due to the topical numbing eye drops that is introduced before LASIK surgery begins, allowing the patient to feel comfortable and at ease during the procedure.

LASIK UAE surgery requires no stitches or bandages on the eye, as the eye heals naturally, and quite easily. You will need to wear protective eye gear, like an light eye patch to promote healing and leave out any dust while being travelling back home.

LASIK surgery to correct vision can be done about twice in a lifetime safely, each time restoring your vision to normal. Therefore, if you fear, you’re still young, and may require another one as you age, our consultants will conduct a thorough examination, before any surgery begins.

LASIK surgery reduces the need to wear eye glasses and contact lenses dramatically, most LASIK patients, permanently stop wearing glasses and contact lenses for years, until and unless their vision quality depreciates when they age.

Ebsaar Eye Surgery centre in Dubai is the leading clinic for LASIK Dubai, lead by Dr. Hani Sakla, and his team of specialist eye surgeons, you will always be in safe hands, as the team consult together to ensure your eyes and vision are taken care of to the highest standards.

Ebsaar is also a recommended clinic for LASIK eye surgery in Dubai. LASIK eye surgery can be done to correct extreme problems with vision, astigmatism, and some other conditions which require physical correction to a single section of the eye structure. LASIK surgery is effective in reducing the need to wear eye glasses and contact lenses, aids in the removal of abnormalities from the surface of the cornea and also helps doctors restore function to the back of the eye.

Ebsaar LASIK Surgeons are able to help near sightedness, far sightedness, astigmatism, and Presbyopia. All these conditions are related to the shape of the cornea and the lens which lies behind the cornea. LASIK makes minor corrections to the cornea and the lens without causing too much distress to the individual. Additionally, LASIK surgery has replaced countless other eye surgeries that used to compel patients to take weeks off work just to recover.

LASIK Surgery aims to change the cornea to appear normal so light travelling through the eye will be refracted correctly. If you took a common magnifying glass that you bought at a bookstore, you will notice that each glass lens is smooth and perfectly shaped in a convex/concave manner to refract light at the right angel so you can view the object more clearly. Now if you were to either melt the glass, or scratch it so the surface is uneven, using of course a steal nail or a hot iron rod, the image you see will not be so clear. Heating the glass lens to extreme temperatures will cause it to lose its shape, failing to magnify the object as it did before.

The cornea too changes over time, and is sometimes defected at birth for genetic reasons. Of course unlike the extreme damage to the glass lens, your cornea experiences minor abnormalities which are easily corrected with the best LASIK in Dubai at Ebsaar. The LASIK technology that we use is considered the most modern and sophisticatedLASIK Dubai, which has been FDA approved and has almost a 100% success rate. If you are tired of wearing eye glasses, or feel uncomfortable with contact lenses, LASIK may be an option you would like to consider. Every patient case is different, and our doctors will conduct a full eye examination and understand your lifestyle and also the type of career you are in, before deciding whether LASIK is indeed safe for you. Visit us for a consultation on LASIK and what it can do for you. You don’t have to wear glasses or contact lenses forever, when LASIK can restore your vision to normal.
