However, statistics show that each year there are thousands of children below the age of 14years who are afflicted with serious eye injuries from playing with toys that are not  appropriate for their age and cause injuries to their eyes. Here are some guidelines which you can follow to protect your child’s eyes from injuries while playing with toys during the holiday season says a surgeon at the Eye Clinic in Dubai.
Some guidelines before you purchase any toys for children,
  • Carefully read all the caution messages, warnings and instructions on the box.
  • Only buy toys that are age appropriate for the child. Either for your own child or even as gifts.
  • Only you know your child’s level of skill and ability, therefore, think out the toy you will buy your child and if it's right for them.
  • Don't purchase toys with sharp points or dangerous edges for very small children or young ones, eventhough they may look safe, it's possible they could cause some serious harm to your child.
  • Make sure the toys that are bought can withstand the impact of your child at play and not break into dangerous pieces that can get into the eyes of the child.
  • Be sure that you can buy toys that are tried, tested and packaged observing national safety standards and regulations.
  • BB guns are not toys, so avoid toys that shoot or include parts that fly off unless your child is old and mature enough to handle them.
Some guidelines to follow before you let them play with certain toys,
  • Inspect each and every toy that is purchased for safety and sturdy construction before the child is allowed to play with it.
  • Understand for yourself and then explain to your child how to use the toy.
  • Immediately fix or throw away broken toys.
  • Supervise the younger children while at play.
  • Keep the toys that belong to older children separated from the toys of younger children.
  • Try to make sure that all toys are stored the way they should to avoid risks or falls.
  • Be sure to make sure the kids wear the right eye protection for use with sports related toys.
Carefully following these guidelines will go a long way to help ensure your children’s eye safety this holiday and save a visit to the Eye Surgery in UAE. However, despite the precautions, if your child does have an eye related injury or you have any issues or concerns regarding your child’s vision visit the Eye Surgery Center in Dubai.

Cataract Surgery in Dubai

Cataract Surgery in Dubai is one of the safest and most common forms of surgery that is performed. Today with the advances in technology, cataract treatment is less invasive, has a quick recovery period and enhances the quality of vision of a patient after the procedure.
Statistics show that cataracts are the leading cause of blindness in adults over 45years. Cataracts occur when a person's natural lens of the eyes becomes cloudy over time. Surgery is needed to remove and replace imperfect lenses.
Cataract surgery is an outpatient procedure. At the Ebsaar Eye Surgery Center, it only takes  short time to complete the treatment.  If  both eyes require Cataracts Dubai surgery, Dr. Hani Sakla will make arrangement to arrange the surgeries between a week or two apart.
The surgery process includes, firstly, dilating the eyes with special drops and thereafter a topical anesthesia is administered to numb the area and prepare for the surgery. Some patient's are given a sedative in addition to the anesthesia to make the patient feel relaxed during the procedure.
There are two types of cataract surgery performed. One uses the standard incision made with a knife, while HD cataract surgery uses the femtosecond laser. Cataract surgery typically consists of two elements such as,
Removal of the cataract- The Eye Surgeon in Dubai will make a small incision in the cornea. This is done manually or by advanced imaging systems. During the laser procedure, a precise 3D map is made of the eye, which guides the laser as it makes the incision. Thereafter, once the incision has been made in the cornea, a special probe is inserted into the cataract mass. Using sound waves, the cloudy matter is broken up and the  emulsified substance is then removed from the eye. The back part of the lens, called the lens capsule, and is left intact and in place to serve as a basis for a new lens.
Replacement of the lens - Once the cataract has been removed, a new lens is inserted into the eye. The lens that is fitted is a an IOL (intraocular lens) which comes in a variety of forms and materials and can be tailor-made to suit the patient's needs.
Once the surgery is completed, patients may experience some mild discomfort and itching that may last a few days after surgery. Vision will also be blurry for a few days as the eye heals and adjusts to the new lens. The patient will need to wear an eye shield to protect the eye during the post surgery  healing process. The Eye Clinic in Dubai may also prescribe eye drops to help with inflammation and to prevent post operative infections.
A  follow up visit is scheduled a day after the surgery to monitor healing, thereafter the patient will need to see the surgeon a week and then a month to ensure the eye is recovering properly. Once the surgery has healed and the eye is back to normal the surgeon will check the patient's eyesight again. Sometimes, the patient may need some form of glasses to aid vision.

All about Presbyopia

No matter how well you took care of your eyes, as you age few eye conditions may be unavoidable. That is why every eye surgeon in Dubai urges everyone to get their eyes checked up regularly even if we notice an issue or not as the ophthalmologist at the eye clinic in Dubai will be able to identify issues even earlier than we see symptoms.
This eye condition known as Presbyopia usually develops in individuals around the age of 40. The first sign of it is a blurred vision specially when sewing, working, reading or using the computer. Unless corrective lenses are used early these individuals may require eye surgery in Dubai if the condition worsens by leaving it untreated.
Presbyopia affects the near sight in people. Even if you have had no eye conditions in the past, even for people who are already wearing corrective lenses for near sight this condition can be experienced. For people wearing lenses for near sight may suddenly experience that the near vision is still blurred when they put on their usual corrective contact lenses or glasses. This happens when the eye lens starts to stiffen with age and is now less able to adjust and focus to view the environment.
Eye surgery center in Dubai has statistics that in 2005 there were over billion people around the world who were presbyopic. WHO also has stated that out of these billion people around 517 million did not have the corrective lenses/glasses. This is mostly due to the reason that in the rural areas proper eye care is not widely available and is very costly. With more people reaching the mid age it has created a great demand for corrective lenses, eyewear and surgery to help people dealing with presbyopes.
The most common sign or symptom that you have presbyopia is when you find that you need to hold reading materials like magazines, books, newspapers and even hotel menu cards at a good arm’s length to be able to focus on the letters properly. If held at the normal length you may not be able to identify the letters and the whole thing would look blurred.  Also when carrying out tasks like writing or embroidery which requires close focus it can lead to fatigue, eye strain and headaches.
Speak to your eye care center today to understand the causes and how you can treat this condition.
