NOT SUITABLE FOR LASIK? OTHER OPTIONS

If you are looking for a way out from your glasses or contact lenses, you are not alone. With an increasing percentage of the world population experiencing declining vision thanks to prolonged exposure to artificial light emanating from our laptops, desktops and mainly mobile phones, the need for more advanced medical options are necessary. Fortunately, technology and education has advanced considerably allowing for options only ever thought of before. Today, eye surgery options to provide permanent solutions for diseases and to improve sight are widely available, and safely so. Some of these include LASIK, Cataract surgery, Keratoconus surgery and PRK.

ABOUT LASIK

Due to hereditary or other reasons, people experience fluctuations in their vision especially as they grow older. Age is a major contributing factor, and treatment the older you are can be harder. However, many eye surgeries such as LASIK have displayed extremely positive results in terms of restoring vision. Although 20/20 vision is never a guarantee, it has been noted for its success in regaining vision as much as possible. LASIK can be performed either Blade or bladeless, and involves the correction of the corneal tissue. It does not take long, and recovery period is also quick enabling you to get back to your daily routine in next-to-no time.

SUITABILITY

As highly demanded as LASIK is, unfortunately not everybody can be considered a suitable candidate for the surgery. For safety reasons, there are pre-set guidelines every doctor and clinic must follow. If the criteria is not met, your doctor will discuss options with your for alternate treatments. Some of these include presence of other eye diseases such as glaucoma, age, other illnesses such as diabetes (open wounds take longer to heal or sometimes never do if diabetes is a factor), or if you had to have your prescription changed within the last year. Fluctuating eyesight will not allow your surgeon to make an accurate decision and you could jeopardise your vision for good.

ALTERNATE TREATMENT

All hope is not lost. Thanks to man’s adaptability, other methods of obtaining the same results are available which are often suggested for those who are not suitable candidates for LASIK. PRK or Photorefractive Keratectomy, Implantable Collamer Lens, and Refractive Lens Exchange are all such alternatives and are suitable for those with the above issues as well as those who may have thin corneas. As certain occupations also do not allow LASIK treated employees, surgeries such as PRK are suitable. LASIK surgery involves the creation of a corneal flap to treat the tissues underneath, while PRK treats the outer layer of the cornea. What suits you is a decision best left to your doctor.

RESEARCH

Research is a good way of clearing up most doubts, or for information in generaL; however, be careful to obtain trustworthy and reliable sources. A lot of the data is not verified which can make it inaccurate. Book an appointment with your doctor so you can discuss your questions and be entirely clear on the subject before you make a decision. LASIK is permanent, and though repeat treatments are possible to correct vision in stages, reversing the procedure is not an option therefore analyse your situation carefully.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT LASIK TREATMENT IN DUBAI

Our vision differs on many factors. Age is one. Family history is another. The two combined, can have negative effects especially if the history displays signs of deteriorating eyesight and manifests itself during old age. The older you are the harder it could be to treat a health issue. More complications can arise as a result of old age from prolonged recovery to other medical issues that could hinder treatment. Lasik treatment in Dubai is one such procedure, and many reasons play a role in determining it as a treatment option for you.

Lasik treatment is used to treat problems with vision focus. Myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism are some of the main issues that are targeted by this procedure. It concerns improper refraction which means light is not entering the eye as normal making images blurry and unfocused. Lasik treatment in Dubai is centred on the cornea as adjustments are made to its tissues to permanently fix visual acuity for the better.

Those under eighteen years of age cannot be considered for the treatment and will have to rely on glasses or contact lenses to see well. Even if you are over the age limit, there are obstacles to qualifying as a candidate for LASIK treatment in Dubai. These include other eye diseases such as macular degeneration, glaucoma and cataract to name a few. Your ophthalmologist should be able to guide you in the right direction in deciding whether another surgery is required prior to LASIK treatment in Dubai.

You should also have a stable prescription of a year, but your doctor will let you know exactly how long when going in for your consultation prior to LASIK treatment in Dubai. They will also examine your cornea as this is the focal point of the surgery. If the cornea is too thin, they may deem it too risky although the use of a laser as opposed to the traditional blade treatment could help combat this.

Before you book yourself in for LASIK treatment in Dubai, ensure you take enough leave from work beforehand. Following the surgery, though some go back to their daily activities, if you feel you would need proper recovery time at home then do so. Going back to a computer screen for hours on end is not the best way to help your eyes heal. You are advised from avoiding any form of eye strain which includes just that.

As the surgeon will use anesthesia and numbing drops during your lasik treatment in Dubai, pain is not something that people report following the surgery. You may feel some discomfort such as dry eyes and inability to be out in light. However, these disappear with time provided you follow the aftercare instructions given.

Most eye surgeries that cater to LASIK treatment in Dubai also treat cataract, keratoconus, retinal issues as well as glaucoma. When booking a doctor, ensure they have enough experience for you to be comfortable with. Hygiene is very important in the clinic as are state-of-the-art equipment to keep up with industry standards.

Some eye surgeons are renowned in their field and are a frequent part of conferences and other events related to the field. It would be worthwhile to read up on them and if you could book a consultation.

KERATOCONUS TREATMENT PROVIDED AT LASIK TREATMENT SURGERIES IN DUBAI

People have long been battling the problems of diminishing eyesight. It is a tiresome problem as it tends to infiltrate into all aspects of your daily life, reducing its quality by hindering your day-to-day activities. It is often stressed that the maintenance of a healthy diet is essential not just to overall health, but eyesight in particular. However, sometimes these issues stem from genetic conditions in which case, matters are rather out of your control. Thankfully, modern advancements in technology have enabled us to turn towards medical help that can alleviate these issues, some of which are cataract treatments, lasik treatment in Dubai, and help for those with keratoconus.

Cataract is the clouding of one or both eyes in some instances, which make one’s vision blurry and unfocused. A thing milky layer forms in the eye, directly obstructing any form of clear vision. While this is an aspect that tends to disqualify people from being able to turn to lasik treatment in Dubai to treat other eye related issues, there are surgeries that are specialised in the treatment of cataract. Lasik treatment in Dubai and around the world, is popular for alleviating conditions of short-sightedness, long-sightedness and astigmatism.

Keratoconus is an issue that commonly occurs in teens and those in their early twenties, and research has shown that the condition is genetic. Therefore, it is advised that is keratoconus is in fact prevalent in the family, you get children checked regularly for it from the age of around 10. Generally, eye surgery clinics that offer lasik treatment in Dubai are also able to treat problems with keratoconus and help correct the situation.

If you are not entirely sure about this condition, it is a good idea to get to know it better so you can be aware of its early signs and symptoms. Collagen fibers in the eye are what holds your cornea together. Collagen is also what is responsible for supple and youthful skin and can be found as a promotional gimmick in many beauty products. The weakening of these fibers cause the cornea to bulge out as they are not strong enough to hold it in place. Surgery for keratoconus just as with lasik treatment in Dubai, is able to correct the loss of vision as a result of this.

The condition tends to be less common as you grow older. People in their 40s are rarely ever diagnosed with keratoconus, but on the contrary, lasik treatment in Dubai addresses issues across all ages. Although keratoconus starts off in one eye, it can spread to both and is unpredictable. In some cases, it has been known to abruptly stop, or even go on for years. Either way, it is an uncomfortable period as keratoconus can cause swelling and result in corneal scars.

Lasik treatment in Dubai has had many successful results, and the same applies to surgeries performed for keratoconus. If you schedule regular appointments with your general eye doctor, they will be able to pick up the slightest sign of a problem and refer you to a surgeon who will be able to offer you further assistance. Keratoconus treatments are done in stages which the doctor will let you know in detail. You will see a drastic improvement in your visual acuity after the first treatment, and some have even gotten rid of their dependence on glasses following keratoconus surgery.

Whether you are looking for options for lasik treatment in Dubai, cataract treatment or keratoconus treatments, it is important that you find out how much experience the surgeon has had in this field, as well as how well reviewed the clinic is. This gives you peace of mind, and assurance of responsibility and accountability as eye procedures are one of the most delicate surgeries that are being performed. As you will receive an initial consultation, you can ask any questions you have and move forward from there.

LASIK TREATMENT IN DUBAI: FROM BLADE TO BLADELESS SURGERY

LASIK treatment in Dubai is widely used to correct the three main issues related to focusing on objects close-up or at a distance; near-sightedness, far-sightedness and astigmatism. Presbyopia is also an issue addressed with the assistance of LASIK eye surgery. With an increase in the number of participants for LASIK treatment in Dubai each year, needless to say the procedure has come a long way since its advent and has transformed the vision of thousands for the better.

In the present day, LASIK is performed in two ways: Blade and Bladeless. LASIK treatment in Dubai was initially performed with the blade method as was done in many other parts of the world that also adapted LASIK treatment. This blade also known as a microkeratome is very thin, and is used to make a cut of microscopic precision in the cornea known as the corneal flap. It is here that the cornea is then adjusted through shaping and sculpting. Bladeless (also called IntraLase) on the other hand, is the use of an extremely precise laser known as femtosecond laser which functions as the blade. Both have their own distinct characteristics and it is usually the doctor who will make a judgment call on which method would be suitable to you.

If you are going for Blade LASIK treatment in Dubai, there are some things you need to bear in mind so you can discuss these with your doctor and make an informed decision. The use of the microkeratome for instance which is the blade utilized in Blade LASIK treatment in Dubai and other eye surgeries offering the same, is a practice that has been losing its significance over time given that its risks far outweighed Bladeless LASIK treatment. During its peak, it was considered useful as it enabled surgeons to get to the heart of the problem by fixing the cornea. However after-effects such as corneal flap infection and the serious case of epithelial growth which is the growth of tissues under the flap, became reasons for doctors to look towards less risky options. As a result, the use of the microkeratome system is steadily being removed.

Bladeless technology for LASIK treatment in Dubai and most other eye surgery centres around the world, has proven to be more efficient, safer and far easier to use than its less favoured counterpart. Firstly, the use of the Bladeless method greatly decreases one of the risks mentioned above which is epithelial growth. As the flap is created using a precise laser, the risk of the blade is minimized. Additionally, Bladeless LASIK treatment in Dubai operates through the use of a computer which controls the laser speed. This allows maximum control and precision which means the surrounding tissues suffer minimal impact.

Bladeless LASIK treatment in Dubai also allows patients to heal fairly quickly comparative to the Blade method. As the laser sculpts away at tissues on a molecular level, the flap is thinner and easier to fall back into place for healing. Blades tend to create irregular edges in the flap which result in an uneven cornea leading to possible astigmatism as a side-effect of the surgery. The downside to Bladeless surgery however is that patients have reported extreme light sensitivity following procedure. Having said that, it may come as somewhat of a relief that doctors have regarded this as a temporary side-effect and are able to treat it with eye-drops.
When considering LASIK treatment in Dubai, thoroughly weigh out these two options and then discuss them with your doctor for a surgery that is most suitable and comfortable to you. Done rightly, LASIK can help gain your vision acuity back by a large percentage and is worth considering.

GET TO KNOW LASIK TREATMENT IN DUBAI BETTER

In the 21st century, everything around us has changed drastically from the way we communicate, to the way we travel and go about our daily agendas. Humans are naturally programmed to be thinkers, innovators and are consistently on the lookout for ways to improve and develop their lives. From the initial discovery of fire to the incredible technology all around us, our timeline has been one of awe and inventions. These inventions significantly impacted human life both in good and bad ways. However, advancements in medicine has been probably one of the most useful and efficient uses of technology there is. In particular, eye surgeries such as cataract treatment, keratoconus treatment and LASIK treatment in Dubai have benefitted greatly as they are reliant on specialised machinery and equipment to carry out such delicate procedures.

LASIK treatment in Dubai and many other parts of the world has been accepted as a worthwhile choice when it comes to correcting vision discrepancies permanently. It is widely performed to correct problems of myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and presbyopia which are all issues related to refraction in the eye. Before understanding the surgery and its procedure, a good look at these conditions is very important so you have a sound understanding.

Ironically enough, those who have myopia which is near-sightedness, have problems with seeing things at a distance while those with hyperopia or far-sightedness, have problems with seeing things close-up. Astigmatism is the shape difference of one’s corneal surface as opposed to a normal cornea, where light reflection is deflected due to the issue. Those who suffer from presbyopia have the unfortunate combination of BOTH near and far-sightedness. These patients require bi-focals as opposed to normal glasses. While all of them benefit from the positive effects of LASIK treatment in Dubai, those with presbyopia experience the biggest difference in vision acuity.

Before LASIK treatment in Dubai was introduced, looking back, the journey of LASIK treatment has taken its time. Due to the sensitive nature of the surgeries, LASIK treatment needed to be approved and accepted as a safe, efficient and minimal risk option for the purpose of vision correction. Since the appearance of the first glasses and contact lenses in Italy and Switzerland respectively, eye doctors and surgeons around the world were constantly looking for solutions for permanent vision improvement and it is then they discovered the used of the excimer laser. This gave birth to LASIK treatment and now LASIK treatment in Dubai is widely available. Conduct plenty of research however and ensure that where you go is completely reliable.

The years 1991 and 1995 were significant for LASIK treatment as these are the years both Canada and the United States approved the use of the excimer laser for the purpose of photorefractive keratectomy (PRK). PRK, as it is known was then used as the foundation on which to develop and build LASIK treatment by two European doctors. LASIK treatment in Dubai as we know it today has been through years of research and development, as well as continuous improvement to ensure it is practiced ethically and with maximum safety. As LASIK treatment is permanent, taking the risk of going to a lesser known eye surgery could have permanent damage on your life.
LASIK treatment in Dubai is highly advanced and employed using the best technology available. You can always get your doubts cleared by booking an initial consultation with your doctor and see if it is suitable to you. Following the surgery, exercise adequate aftercare and you will be able to reap the true benefits of LASIK treatment.

All about LASIK Treatment in Dubai

One of our most precious senses is our eyesight. It enables us to see the world around us, identify people, distinguish colours and be witness to breathtaking natural phenomenons. A truly complex mechanism, the human eye executes a host of functions before we are able to process what we are seeing all which happens at lightning speed.

Whether it be due to genetic conditions or events that occurred later in life, sometimes eyesight fails us and vision is compromised. Other reasons for poor vision point to bad habits that have been encouraged in the 21st century such as excessive video-gaming, watching television at a stretch, not reading with enough light and consuming a poor diet all which place tremendous stress on your eyes. Add to that the 8 hours a day every week we sit at our computers and the additional hours with our noses buried in our phones, and it’s no surprise that the percentage of world population using glasses or other forms of corrective eye-treatment is on the rise. In fact a whopping 6 out of 10 people are now using glasses to enhance their vision. The increase is number is evident via a study conducted in 2012 which displayed figures of those utilising glasses, contact lenses and other visual aids at 61% in comparison to 57% in the year 2001.

Thankfully though in the past few year, advancements in technology have grown in leaps and bounds providing a long-lasting and safe solution for those suffering from poor eyesight.

LASIK Eye Surgery was introduced as a revolutionary method to ease the condition of eye patients and provide them with a long-term answer, and now LASIK treatment in Dubai is available. Laser in-situ keratomileusis (LASIK) though regarded with some apprehension at first, is now a popular surgery around the world. LASIK treatment in Dubai is employed to treat not only farsightedness (hyperopia) and shortsightedness (myopia) but also those who suffer from astigmatism; the latter is linked to genetics resulting from an eye that is not fully round in shape. To fully comprehend how this works, take for example a normal human eye. It is shaped like a sphere, which enables light to refract and bend easily creating a clear vision of the object. Astigmatism means that the eye is shaped more like a football than a sphere, hindering the light from bending evenly resulting in unclear vision where the object may appear hazy or blurry.

Many issues pertaining to poor eyesight can be treated with LASIK, and as with other laser vision correction surgeries, LASIK treatment in Dubai deals with rectification of the cornea. The cornea is the front part of your eye that reflects light into the retina positioned at the back. LASIK treatment in Dubai is one of many other eye correction surgeries out there, but it is one of the most celebrated due to the following:

-       LASIK has proven to be highly successful with a success rate of 96% amongst patients
-       The procedure does not involved as much pain as one would think due to numbing drops
-       The surgery shows results almost immediately, within the same day or the next
-       There is no need for bandages or healing straps
-       If your vision needs correcting due to changes with age, you can get adjustment surgery done years after
-       Following LASIK treatment in Dubai, most patients have been found to reduce dependence on their glasses and/ or contact lenses

If you are considering LASIK treatment in Dubai you must consult your eye doctor first. Your health conditions as well as other contributing factors such as your cornea and pupil need to be thoroughly assessed before you are deemed suitable as a candidate for this procedure. Once you pass this analysis the treatment only takes 15 minutes for both eyes and you can look forward to going about your daily work as normal. It is also important to note that whilst the procedure is comparatively more successful, nothing can guarantee a fully restored vision and any place that claims this is a fad. It will however greatly improve your condition for you.

Look for an experienced, board-certified ophthalmologist when evaluating your options for LASIK treatment in Dubai for safety and reliability.

LASIK Treatment in Dubai: Before, During and Afte

LASIK eye surgery has grown to be widely popular around the world due to its high success rates and quick results. While it is a revolutionary option to correcting poor vision over the long-term, given that it is a very delicate procedure, it is best you are as prepared as possible for it. When considering LASIK treatment in Dubai, go over the below so at every stage you know what needs to be done.

BEFORE:

Prior to going in for LASIK treatment in Dubai, doctors typically conduct a full analysis of your health and your eyes before they clear you as a suitable candidate for the surgery. If you are given the go-ahead, you will then be subject to a number of different tests.

The doctor will analyse not just the size and shape of of your cornea and pupils but also the issue you need help with correcting. Shortsightedness, Farsightedness and astigmatism are the common causes for booking into LASIK treatment in Dubai and the doctor will determine which of this it is. Any other eye conditions will also be examined and cleared along the way. Due to the fact that post LASIK eye surgery can result in dry eyes, the moisture levels in your eyes will also be evaluated so preventative measures can be taken mitigating your discomfort.

Following this, a ‘map’ of your cornea will be taken based on its curvature with a tool known as as corneal topographer and with the utilization of wave technology which is common with custom LASIK treatment in Dubai, light waves will be sent through your eye to determine any irregularities that may occur in order to treat it properly.

If you wear glasses bring your prescription along with you for analysis, and it is advised that if you wear contact lenses on a regular basis, you abstain for a period of at least two weeks in preparation for your eye exam and procedure. You must confirm this period with your doctor.

DURING:

The procedure in itself is rather quick and pain-free. The main instrument used for the surgery is microkeratome or femtosecond laser and it creates a thin flap in the cornea which then allows the surgeon to pull it back and readjust the corneal tissue with a laser. Once it is determined that light refracts properly through to the retina, the cornea flap is put back into place which is the end of the surgery. If you are choosing LASIK treatment in Dubai to rectify your sight, it should not take more than 10 minutes for each eye. You will of course be placed under local anesthesia and numbing drops will be used to make sure the entire process is as less invasive as possible.

AFTER:

Your eyes must be taken utmost care of in general, however following the surgery you need to be especially cautious. As mentioned above, dry eyes is a common occurrence and your doctor will have prescribed you eye drops to be used. Do NOT use any other eye drops other than what has been recommended for you. The eyedrops will not only help to keep your eyes moist, but also prevent infection and inflammation that can occur.

Having said that, the healing process after surgery happens fairly rapidly with many patients reporting an improvement in vision within the next day. Although it is common knowledge that vision is rarely ever corrected 100%, it does make a vast difference to get LASIK treatment in Dubai. If you have been suffering from poor vision it really is worth your while to consider your options with surgery.

Once the procedure is complete, your doctor will want to check-up and ensure that the first day or two are free of any post-surgery issues that may crop up. Following this you will need to go in for regular monitoring for the first 6 months and based on where you stand then, your doctor will let you know if anything is amiss or if everything is fine.

LASIK treatment in Dubai has proven to ease the life of many patients who have long been suffering from poor eyesight. Though there are many corrective options, the most popular has been LASIK and provided you follow protocol there is not much to worry about.

Safety vs LASIK in Dubai

For patients the single most important factor guiding their decision to have LASIK in Dubai, is the safety factor. While they fear that there could be complications, this is a common dilemma that patients face, says the Eye Surgeon in Dubai at the Ebsaar Eye Surgery Center. Having the right information can dismiss unnecessary fear factors associated with LASIK treatment. This article addresses some of the useful considerations and information about the safety of LASIK for prospective patients.

LASIK has been around since 1991 and has been performed over 25 million times, around the world. Though a vast majority of LASIK patients has been very satisfied with their results, there are patients who have  complained that their laser vision correction results were unsatisfactory. Many of these complications and unsatisfactory results are due to the use of older vision technology, less experienced and less careful surgeons and patients who don't make ideal candidates for LASIK treatment. The potential LASIK problems and complications typically fall into the following categories,

·         Dry Eyes - This occurs from a temporary reduced corneal nerve sensation or other ocular surface conditions. The good news is that this is treatable and preventable for many  patients.

·         Night time vision - Nighttime side effects such as glare, halo, star-bursting and decreased contrast sensitivity,  results in a reduced quality of vision at night. This is most due to a historical problem, having been substantially resolved by advancements with newer vision treatment options and technology. Side effects associated with night time vision  were more common in patients with nearsightedness that were treated with conventional technology. However, a recent study found that patients are ten-times more likely to see better at night after undergoing the latest treatment for LASIK at  the Eye Clinic in Dubai.

·         Accuracy and Enhancement - The whole idea about having LASIK is to eliminate an individual's complete dependence on eyeglasses or contact lenses. For most patients this is a very realistic goal. After undergoing LASIK, if a patient still has some residual near-sightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism, a re-treatment procedure can fine-tune the individual's vision, if possible and is appropriate. All objective data reveal that the possibility of a LASIK re-treatment ranges from 2% to 10%. There is a higher chance of needing a re-treatment, for patients who have a larger and a far more complicated correction, use standard  LASIK technology, or use an eye surgeon who is inexperienced. Currently, in Dubai the re-treatment rate with standard LASIK ranges from 5-10%. Though standard LASIK has a long track record of being effective and restores perfect vision, the latest LASIK treatments have improved the accuracy of LASIK, and reduced the possibility of a re- treatment by about 2% to 5%. In reality, LASIK has a high level of success and there is no other surgical procedure that can rival the accurate results of LASIK.

·         Problems with the flap - An irregular flap during surgery or shifted flap after surgery can cause many problems and affect the success of the treatment. However, with improved LASIK technology and an experienced surgeon the possibility of this issue is very rare.

·         Infection - This is very rare, statistics show that infection occurs only in 1 patient out of 10,000 surgeries.

·         Corneal Inflammation after LASIK can be prevented with timely follow-up care and the appropriate use of anti-inflammatory eye drops.

Patients should make sure to gather as  much information as possible before opting for LASIK as it's an integral part of having realistic expectations and it is prudent to adopt a healthy amount of caution. As expected, the safety profile and vision results are far better with today’s modern LASIK treatment as opposed to the '1991-style' LASIK. Having said that, some LASIK eye surgeries have crossed the line with unacceptable medical standards and neglecting to give patients realistic expectations, thereby falling short of proper care for patient post surgery.

The Effects of Smoking After LASIK in Dubai

The Eye Surgeon in Dubai, as well as an increasing number of eye surgeons around the world believes that smoking after LASIK can have a negative outcome and affect an individual's general eye health as well. Many studies have previously indicated that smoking is responsible in the incidence and progression of age related macular degeneration (AMD), cataract and thyroid eye disease. Recent reports show the impact that smoking has on inflammation of the eye's middle layer of tissue and it shows that tobacco smoke plays a big part in this serious eye disease as well. However, the biggest challenge is how to make sure that the general population is aware of the devastating impact that smoking has on the eye health and outcome of eye surgeries, which includes LASIK.

Some of the most alarming statistics on smoking is that in a quarter of all smokers in the UAE had their first cigarette before the age of 10, this figure was revealed by the Ministry of Health. Also, the Eye Clinic in Dubai, says that people in Dubai are exposed to tobacco smoke, either directly or as passive smokers with each resident being exposed to passive smoking for about five hours daily. About 67 per cent of them are exposed to passive smoking in public places. It is now a universally established fact that cigarette or tobacco smoking has been linked to death due to lung cancer and emphysema, and has also been established as a contributing factor to other diseases, including heart disease. However, many individuals are still not aware of the fact that smoking can have an indirect effect on a number of the body’s natural processes such as healing and repair. According to a recent report, the incidence of smoking is about 30% in the general population undergoing elective surgical procedures such as LASIK.

Smoking can harm the natural balance of the eyes as it increases the stickiness of blood cells and increasing the chances of blood vessel buildup and clogging. Blood vessel clogs, or retinal vascular occlusions can also cause vision loss. Smoking also increases the risk of blood vessel disease that develops in individuals who suffer from diabetes.

There is an increase in the evidence that shows that the relationships between various exposures and common eye diseases. Smoking is a risk factor for various types of potentially blinding eye conditions, including retinal vascular occlusions, ischemic optic neuropathy, diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Most of these conditions can lead to partial or complete vision loss or total blindness. Therefore, smoking is considered the single most consistently documented risk factor associated with visual loss in AMD. Extensive research and studies have shown that approximately one third of the risk of developing advanced AMD could be caused by smoking and smokers are 5 times more likely to develop advanced AMD with visual loss as opposed to non-smokers.

Some of the instances where smoking could affect eye health are,

·         Chronic eye diseases, with the exception of glaucoma, are all associated with smoking.

·         Those who smoke cigarettes are at increased risk for developing cataracts, a condition where the naturally clear lens of the eye gets cloudy

·         Smoking will accelerate AMD, the leading cause of severe visual impairment and blindness

Additionally, the optic nerve is also susceptible to damage from tobacco smoke. Individuals with an unhealthy diet, smoke heavily and drink excessive amounts of alcohol run the risk of developing optic nerve-related vision loss, also called tobacco-alcohol amblyopia. Sometimes, there are instances where optic nerve issues are hereditary, individuals with this condition who smoke have an increased risk of vision loss.

The general perception is that smoking affects some of the common systems in the body like lungs, heart and blood vessels, the immune response, and tissue healing. However, research shows that the most common post-surgical complications related to smoking are impaired wound and tissue healing and wound infection. With LASIK, this could involve delayed corneal tissue healing and increased risk of eye inflammation and infection. One of the main side effects of smoking after LASIK in Dubai, as reported by patients is dry eye. Dry-eye-related symptoms are very common in smokers than non-smokers due to changes in tear proteins caused by smoking. For these individuals, smoking is a significant irritant, which makes the symptoms worse, leading to increased irritation, scratchiness, stinging or burning of the eyes, and excess tearing from irritation. Smoking also impairs immune function, leading to an increased risk of infection.

Therefore, to reduce the risk of these and other serious complications after LASIK treatment, and increase the success rate of the treatment, it is recommended that individuals quit smoking at least eight weeks before surgery and also completely give up smoking after surgery. Smoking makes recovery harder by putting increased pressure on the heart, affecting blood pressure, reducing oxygen in the blood and eye tissues and damaging the lungs.

Best Eye Clinic Offering LASIK Treatment in Dubai

LASIK as it's commonly known, stands for laser in-situ keratomileusis, and is a safe and popular surgery that is used to correct vision in individuals who are nearsighted, farsighted, or have astigmatism. Research report says that, around 96% of patients will have their desired vision after LASIK treatment.

All LASIK Treatment in Dubai, work by reshaping the cornea, the clear front part of the eye, so that light traveling through it is properly focused onto the retina located in the back of the eye. LASIK is one of a number of different surgical techniques used to reshape the cornea. However, before embarking on the treatment, one final decision needs to be made and that is choosing a well experienced LASIK Eye Surgeon in Dubai.

Choosing a good LASIK eye surgeon

Settling on a LASIK eye surgeon is one of the most important health care decisions a patient will ever make, so it's best to consider all the factors before choosing a particular eye surgeon. The first thing to do is to look for an Eye Surgery in Dubai with a reputation for patient satisfaction and for an experienced and board-certified surgeon. Thereafter, once the search is narrowed down, make your selection, talk to family and  friends or co-workers who have used the eye clinic and look for patients' reviews via the Internet, and request for patient testimonials by visiting the eye surgery.

Most patients focus on the cost of LASIK treatment than the eye surgeon who is actually performing the procedure. Don't bargain shop with something as important as this, it's not like shopping for a new purse or an outfit, eye care is priceless. Even if it's costly it can save money in the long run and most importantly your vision.

Not all LASIK eye surgery centers and LASIK eye surgeons are the same. The following checklist can help determine which LASIK surgery is the best,

·         Hygiene and cleanliness - A reputable eye surgery will be clean and hygienic.

·         Equipment -A good eye surgery will use the latest technology in terms of eye care. Is there a choice that is offered with the eye surgery? Make sure to go over all these questions with the eye surgeon.

·         Professionalism and friendly staff -From the office staff to the eye surgeon, the eye clinic's staff and their demeanor speak volumes. Most eye clinics work together with the patient to make sure that the treatment options go smoothly.

·         Relationship with the eye surgeon - Build a cordial and smooth relationship with the surgeon, and make sure to follow all pre and post surgery instructions to make sure that the treatment is a success. The fact remains that LASIK has a 95% success rate, which is one of the highest success rates of any operation, when performed by an experienced eye surgeon.

·         Future treatment - The result of LASIK can vary from patient to patient, therefore there may be certain enhancements that will be needed from time to time. Even with successful surgery, future enhancements may be needed, or patient's may require eye glasses for activities such as reading or driving. Also, farsighted patients may experience deteriorating vision over time as part of the natural aging process. Even patients who cannot achieve 20/20 vision through LASIK will usually enjoy at least 20/40 vision after the procedure.

Invest in time and make sure to find the right Eye Clinic in Dubai as its a decision that will pay dividends in improving vision for years to come.
